Dr. Eric Kirkman, Conductor
Originally from Panama City, Florida, Eric is a graduate of Rutherford High School. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music Education from UNA. He received his Doctorate Degree in Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
While at UNA, Eric was the lead trumpeter and featured soloist in the marching, jazz and concert bands. He was also the director of the Ascending Voices Gospel Choir for three years. One of his most cherished memories of UNA involved his selection as “University Man of the Year” in 1997.
Dr. Kirkman’s educational experience spans the course of over twenty years starting with his volunteer work as a summer band camp instructor at a local high school. He was the band director of the award-winning Sheffield High School “Sound of the Shoals” Marching Band. His bands achieved over 180 superior ratings and “best in class” designations at contests throughout the United States. His bands also won “Most Entertaining Band” at numerous competitions.
Dr. Kirkman has served as a guest clinician for honor bands and honor choirs in Alabama and Florida.
Dr. Kirkman has served as a vice-principal and a principal in Sheffield City Schools. He is currently the Director of The Kilby Laboratory School located at the University of North Alabama. In addition, he is the Worship Leader at Highland Baptist Church, Broadway Campus of Florence, Alabama.
Lastly, Dr. Kirkman is the husband of Dr. Tera Kirkman, who is the Associate Dean of Nursing at the University of North Alabama. They have two sons, Jalen and Justin.

Davonna Blasingame, Accompanist
Davonna Blasingame began playing the piano in elementary school, and was an accompanist for choruses in junior high and high school. While acquiring a B.S. degree in elementary education and music from UNA, she studied piano under Walter Urban. Davonna accompanied many student vocal and instrumental recitals, as well as the Collegiate Singers under Joe Groom.
Over the years, Davonna has been a pianist at a number of churches, as well as for many musicals in local theaters. She is vice president of Small Business Network, Inc. (SBN), a Florence-based media company she co-founded with her husband, Jim. Davonna is an award-winning publisher with SBN Books, a division of SBN.
